Perrier-Jouët and Iris van Herpen partnership celebrates “biological processes that shape life”

Champagne house Perrier-Jouët has unveiled a creative collection with designer Iris van Herpen that draws on art nouveau design, soundscapes and the “invisible forces that shape the natural world”.

As part of the partnership, Van Herpen created Symphonic Bloom, a sculptural piece crafted from silk and recycled 22-carat gold.

The collectable sculpture was designed to delicately twirl up the neck of a Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 1988 jeroboam champagne bottle. According to Van Herpen, it reflects “the unseen” and represents hidden entities, such as sound and energy frequencies.

During the piece’s creation, the designer recorded soundscapes of Perrier-Jouët’s champagne vineyards, documenting acoustic patterns via cymatics – a technology that makes sound waves visible via sand or water. The sculpture’s patterns are based on such vibrations.

“In nature, there is a silent yet ever-present dance of frequencies, rhythms, and biological processes that continuously shape life,” Van Herpen explained.

“The world is not only visual but vibrational – woven together by invisible forces that connect all living things,” the designer added.

The nature-informed element of the sculpture’s craft connects to Perrier-Jouët’s experimental regenerative viticulture programme, which aims to sustainably restore soil health across its vineyards.

Since 2021, the initiative has been successfully undertaken across 40 per cent of its sites.

This mirrors Van Herpen’s sustainability ethos, with the designer incorporating recycled materials into her designs and using techniques to minimise waste as much as possible.

In keeping with its multidisciplinary theme, Symphonic Bloom was also created to reflect the layered flavours of Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque cuvées and how they develop with time.

Alongside the sculpture, Van Herpen also produced Symphonic Life, a collectable edition of a Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 1999 magnum, adorned in the botanical motifs seen in Symphonic Bloom.

Completing the set of collaborative cuvees is a bespoke version of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2018 that comes with a reimagined bottle and gift box, made in collaboration with cellar master Séverine Frerson.

“Inspired by the designer’s interplay of materials including metal, wood, silk and velvet, the cuvée reveals notes of white flowers, poached pear and grapefruit, lifted by a delicate touch of white pepper and a fine, silky finish,” said Séverine of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2018.

Perrier-Jouët explained that the collaboration with Van Herpen is built on a shared philosophy that spotlights and advocates for nature as a source of “inspiration, creation and transformation”.

“Treating nature as a collaborator, Iris van Herpen is one of fashion’s most forward-thinking designers, with a practice that reveals the invisible beauty of living systems, translating organic forces, micro-rhythms and subterranean life into visible form,” said Axelle de Buffevant, creative director of Perrier-Jouët.

De Buffévent explained that the shared mindset also mirrors its connections with the art nouveau movement, with which it has a long-standing cultural and artistic affinity.

The design movement’s reference was also interpreted by Van Herpen across the whole collaboration, where the movements of American dancer Loïe Fuller were also used as a source of inspiration across the project.

Fuller’s movements were used in art nouveau lamp design by French sculptor Raoul Larche, which is part of Perrier-Jouët’s extensive French art nouveau collection at Maison Belle Époque in Épernay.

The creations were presented on 21 October for Perrier-Jouët’s Banquet of Nature at The Peninsula Paris, which combined champagne, art and gastronomy into an interactive sensory gathering.

The project will continue its international journey in Miami, Florida, for the city’s design week in December 2026, of which the brand has a longstanding history.

“For many years, Perrier-Jouët and Design Miami have shared a commitment to creativity, craftsmanship and contemporary culture,” the brand said.

Perrier-Jouët is a partner of the fair and last year launched its Design for Nature Award, of which Van Herpen was the first recipient.

This year, during Design Miami, a final collaborative sculptural piece will be revealed, created by Van Herpen as the winner of the award.
